Nike ‘Block Series’ Outtakes

Filming for the Nike Block Surf Series last year in France and Spain, we filmed this segment with one of the locals from the Sopelana Surf Club, Txaber Gaminde. Txaber was such a cool guy and took us over to his local in Algorta, which just happened to be one of the raddest skate parks we've seen. Unfortunately the skate section didnt see the light of the day in the clips, with Nike only wanting to feature surfing in the final clips… So with the project wrapped up, it was a shame to leave this on the editing room floor! Enjoy, and go visit…. Such an awesome part of the world!

Huckle the Barber

Knack Studio’s Justin Barnwell recently created this film about Chris Ward and his brand new venture ‘Huckle the Barber’. Located in the heart of London’s creative buzz, Shoreditch, Huckle the Barber is a men’s grooming Salon tailoring those who like a little more than a 10 minute Barber experience, good music, appreciation of art and even a boutique beer or scotch on the rocks. I feel like a hair cut now.

Time Out describes ‘Huckle the Barber’

:: You don’t always get what you pay for with a haircut. Oftentimes a pseudo-sexual head massage and the dubious whiff of heritage are enough to double the price of a snip. So, at Huckle, a no-nonsense barbershop that still charges £35 an appointment, you’d expect the service to be damn good. Luckily, it is. Chris Ward, my barber, and the shop’s owner, pays attention to the twist of my crown, styles a trendy sweep across my forehead (we are in the middle of Shoreditch after all) and even shaves off my neck fluff during a 45-minute appointment. The in-trim entertainment is limited to zeigeist-y dream-pop on the stereo, Chris’s easy conversation and some locally brewed Howling Hops craft beer, or a glass of Balvenie whisky. The barbershop is located on the site of the recently departed Murdock, and most of the staff have migrated from there. But this is a very different beard-trimming beast. With butchershop-white tiles and swanky but austere Belmont chairs the design avoids the old-fangled clutter of other premium barbers. The attitude at Huckle is that men are grown-up enough to care about grooming without having to pretend to be in ‘Mad Men’. ‘Guys don’t particularly like getting their hair cut,’ admits Chris. But in this case, they had us at Howling Hops.

Road to the Pro

(You really should watch in HD – so much better!)

Our latest work with Aquabumps and Land Rover celebrates the famous surf route in the short film ‘Road to the Pro’, a road trip from Sydney to the Gold Coast’.

Beginning in Sydney and ending at Snapper Rocks a total of 844 km’s – The home of the Quiksilver Pro, the first stop on the ASP calender at the infamous Super Bank – Snapper Rocks.

The trip is quintessentially Australian, adventure surf tripping with a likeable bunch of surfers and following the vision of ::Uge and Aquabumps. The beach lifestyle presents surfers with style, road-tripping the east coast in search of empty barrels, good times, beautiful scenery and meeting colourful character locals & wildlife along the way.

Roll In 3//Vans BOWL-A-RAMA Bondi – Festival of the Skateboard from Frontside Events on Vimeo.

More then just a skate contest, the Vans BOWL-A-RAMA Bondi is a week long Festival of the Skateboard.

Track: Coming Around by The Rude Heads.

Roll In 2//Vans BOWL-A-RAMA Bondi – Generations from Frontside Events on Vimeo.

On the eve of the 9th Vans BOWL-A-RAMA Bondi, Lizzie Armanto and Alex Sorgente talk about skating in Bondi for the first time. Lizzie, 20 years old, will make history as the first female to compete in the Pro Division and Alex, 15 years old, is looking good after podium finishes in both at the Vans BOWL-A-RAMA New York IN 2012 and the Vans BOWL-A-RAMA Wellington last week.

Sydney’s stunning Bondi Beach welcomes the return of Vans BOWL-A-RAMA™ Bondi from February 19 – 23 for its ninth consecutive year of awesome skateboarding and events. Following it’s the first event of the international series, Vans BOWL-A-RAMA™ Wellington (held one week prior), Bondi promises to continue the festivities with an even hotter lineup of international skateboarding legends at the biggest professional bowl skating contest this side of the equator.

Vans BOWL-A-RAMA™ Bondi 2012 saw original Bones Brigade member Steve Caballero (USA) knock out the competition to win his fifth Masters Title while crowds blew up in a well-deserved cheer. Following suit, teen prodigy Pedro Barros (BRAZIL) blasted his way through the competition to earn first place on the Pro leader board for the third year running, in front of Bucky Lasek (USA) and Rune Glifberg (DENMARK).

Vans BOWL-A-RAMA™ Bondi 2013 draws a stellar list of international talent, including the pumped-to-win runners up from last year’s event, alongside crowd favourites: Pedros Barros (BRAZIL), Steve Caballero (USA), and Josh Rodriguez (USA). For the first time ever Christian Hosoi (USA) will be hitting bondi beach skatepark, whilst they all battle it out for the $100,00AUD prize purse. The competition on the Bowl is guaranteed to be fierce.

“Rad!!! Some amazing skating is going on here in Wellington, New Zealand, it’s set for an epic PRO showdown on Saturday and then it’s off to the big-mama of skateboarding; the Vans BOWL-A-RAMA Bondi see you on the beach!!” Comments Master skateboarder Pat Ngoho.

The PRO division is one of the strongest ever assembled, with a list of riders including Pedro Barros, Josh Rodriguez, Rune Glifberg, Jack Fardell, Nolan Monroe, Sky Siljeg, Nathan Beck, Kalani David, Bucky Lasek, Josh Stafford, Kevin Kowalski, Mike Owen, Charlie Blair, Alex Sorgente, Steve Pineiro, Omar Hassan, Otavio Neto, Rion Linderman, Joshua Borden, Nilo Pecannha, Andy Macdonald, Marcos Gabriel, Renton Millar, Ben Hatchell, Alex Perelson, Curren Caples, Ben Raybourn, Sam Beckett, and Zach Miller, all looking to skate their way to a spot on the podium.

The Masters Division includes skateboarding legends Christian Hosoi (first time competing at Vans BOWL-A-RAMA Bondi), Pat Ngoho, Steve Caballero, Sean Goff, Eddie Elguera, Sergie Ventura, Lester Kasai, Michael Mulhall, Jeff Grosso and George Orton.

Another year down and another Bondi just around the corner. This will be my second year at Australia’s most infamous bowl contest, Vans BOWL-A-RAMA Bondi. Every year this contest grows and brings in fresh and exciting skateboarders, right to the beautiful Bondi Beach. If your not there, we had fun. If you are, Strap yourself in and lets get buck.” Comments Australian Champion, Jack Fardell”

In addition to hosting the world’s most recognized skateboard talent Vans BOWL-A-RAMA™ Bondi will once again award wild card entries to the winners of the Hurley Australian Bowl-riders competition (ABC™) held at Newcastle’s Bar Beach. These talented underdogs bring a whole new level of competition to the pool, making the pros sweat it out as they battle for the titles.

This year at Vans BOWL-A-RAMA Bondi will have the Dew AM Jam, the amateur comp running as part of the day’s events. It was created by Mt Dew to give young amateur skaters the opportunity to showcase their skills in front of media and sponsors from around the world.

This year $3000 is on the line for the best overall skater during the comp and the Order of Skaters will be provided on the day of the event. The runs will be judged by Mt Dew skaters Renton Millar and Nathan Beck as well as Sergie Ventura.

“We’re all arriving in Bondi right now from the best Vans BOWL-A-RAMA Wellington so far. Building on the energy levels from last week means that everyone is in for one of the most amazing weeks of skateboard culture ever seen on the fine shores of Bondi. As lifelong fans we can’t wait to be part of it. Not only do we have new talent coming up to shake the tree but also a heavy list of scene builders that created the whole thing in the first place. Young guns like; Alex Sorgente, Jack Fardell and Kalani David side by side with the old dogs; Christian Hosoi, Mike McGill, Adrian Jones and George Orton is going to be bloody awesome!” Comments Chad Ford, Director of Frontside Events.

Fans outside of Sydney can watch the action live via a global webcast from www.bowlarama.com.au, live Fuel TV broadcast and the Vans Live 2.0 App.
