My Creative World EP.01

In partnership with Optus, and working for Lost at E Minor, Knack Studios has been creating a three part video series that puts the spotlight on some young, handpicked Australian creatives, doing inspirational things within their chosen fields.

Episode One features Lost At E Minor’s 17 year-old Australian Contributing Editor, Cormack O’Connor, who got his start writing for the Newcastle scene, before gravitating towards music journalism. Having both skills in writing and photography has led Cormack to work with and for some big names, including Alt-J, Flume and more, and having his work being published everywhere from ACCLAIM Magazine to World’s Only Zine – and Lost At E Minor!

Havaianas | Aquabumps Collaboration

Knack studios created 4 films to document the Havaianas collaboration with beach photography institution Aquabumps.

The featured print on the Havaianas pair by Aquabumps ‘The Caribbean Look’ captures a busy summer’s day, on Australia’s iconic Bondi Beach. A tribute to our picture-perfect coast, it details bathers dotted along Bondi’s sandy shores and crustal blue water. To showcase how this shot was created we followed photographer Eugene Tan up above the iconic Sydney coastline and showcase how he photographs the beaches from above.

The story behind the collaboration was executed in 4 videos and shared across multi digital platforms including Youtube, Facebook and Instagram.

Nike ‘Block Series’ Outtakes

Filming for the Nike Block Surf Series last year in France and Spain, we filmed this segment with one of the locals from the Sopelana Surf Club, Txaber Gaminde. Txaber was such a cool guy and took us over to his local in Algorta, which just happened to be one of the raddest skate parks we've seen. Unfortunately the skate section didnt see the light of the day in the clips, with Nike only wanting to feature surfing in the final clips… So with the project wrapped up, it was a shame to leave this on the editing room floor! Enjoy, and go visit…. Such an awesome part of the world!

Huckle the Barber

Knack Studio’s Justin Barnwell recently created this film about Chris Ward and his brand new venture ‘Huckle the Barber’. Located in the heart of London’s creative buzz, Shoreditch, Huckle the Barber is a men’s grooming Salon tailoring those who like a little more than a 10 minute Barber experience, good music, appreciation of art and even a boutique beer or scotch on the rocks. I feel like a hair cut now.

Time Out describes ‘Huckle the Barber’

:: You don’t always get what you pay for with a haircut. Oftentimes a pseudo-sexual head massage and the dubious whiff of heritage are enough to double the price of a snip. So, at Huckle, a no-nonsense barbershop that still charges £35 an appointment, you’d expect the service to be damn good. Luckily, it is. Chris Ward, my barber, and the shop’s owner, pays attention to the twist of my crown, styles a trendy sweep across my forehead (we are in the middle of Shoreditch after all) and even shaves off my neck fluff during a 45-minute appointment. The in-trim entertainment is limited to zeigeist-y dream-pop on the stereo, Chris’s easy conversation and some locally brewed Howling Hops craft beer, or a glass of Balvenie whisky. The barbershop is located on the site of the recently departed Murdock, and most of the staff have migrated from there. But this is a very different beard-trimming beast. With butchershop-white tiles and swanky but austere Belmont chairs the design avoids the old-fangled clutter of other premium barbers. The attitude at Huckle is that men are grown-up enough to care about grooming without having to pretend to be in ‘Mad Men’. ‘Guys don’t particularly like getting their hair cut,’ admits Chris. But in this case, they had us at Howling Hops.
