‘We Stand Sideways’

After two successful exhibitions, ‘we all have teenage fantasies’ and ‘Fancy That’ The Camera Club,a community based bar & gallery space that’s dedicated to celebrating creativity through camera related pursuits, is now set to deliver its third photographic showcase ‘We Stand Sideways’.

We Stand Sideways presents the all inspiring work of a group of global surf photographers. Hand-picked by the creative folk at STAB Magazine the s…how features images snapped by the world’s
leading surf lensmen including Richie Freeman, Sergio Villalba, Ryan Miller & Ben Brown amongst many others. From the Canary Islands & Iceland through Asia & South Pacific here is a top-shelf selection that’ll make you wanna slide!

“I believe you will find this exhibition incredibly comely. It is a metaphor – the surfer trapped in the wave’s crazy hypnosis – for all the black men living in ghetto torture chambers, deballed by the poisonous pus of crime and pimpdom. You may find the link tenuous. For us, We Stand Sideways is a metaphorical portrait of ghetto life – a masterpiece!” Derek Rielly, Stab Magazine

“We’ve so much respect for the team at Stab and absolutely honoured to have them involved in curating the We Stand Sideways exhibition. Its shaping up to be really quite special.” Darryl Nichols. Co-Founder, The Camera Club

The ‘We Stand Sideways’ exhibition launch party is being held Thursday April-14 from 7pm with a special sideways-inspired free cocktail on entry and live dj. If you’re in the market for some seriously impressive surf photography then get ready to get down!

In keeping with its community-based approach The Camera Club has also released a number of extensions including a Stab Magazine library, vintage photo booth, exhibition inspired cocktails and camera related inspiration from the past, present and future.

The Camera Club is located within the Beach Road Hotel, proudly supported by 42 Below & Brought to you by Knack Studios.

The Camera Club – Show #2

THE CAMERA CLUB presents…

FANCY THAT!
‘Sh#t for your lounge room wall’

After a successful launch in August with their first exhibition, ‘we all have teenage fantasies’ The Camera Club, a community based bar & gallery space that’s dedicated to celebrating creativity through camera-related pursuits, is now set to deliver its second installment ‘Fancy That!’.

Fancy That! features the work of 10 exhibiting photographers including James Broadhurst,  Gavin Rea, Akila Berjaoui and has been curated under The Camera Clubs ‘six degrees of separation’ philosophy. Under this approach the club selects an overarching theme and then chooses a photographer to exhibit, who then selects the second and so on. The end result is 10 micro-galleries each of which is connected via the group show theme and exhibiting photographers via six-degrees of separation.

The Camera Club concept has been well received locally and a growing demand for more frequent exhibitions has inspired club creators Justin Barnwell and Darryl Nichols to extend the activities of the club and its commitment to the photographic community. “We have a number of exciting plans on the agenda” comments Barnwell. “What we really need is someone to head them up, like a Club President’ adds Nichols. The two have just launched an little campaign in an attempt to recruit The Camera Club President, who will help facilitate a range of activities, including curating exhibitions, shooting photographs and partying with exhibiting photographers.’ Applications close on November-19, 201. More info at http://www.thecameraclub.com.au/clubpresident/

In keeping with its community-based approach The Camera Club has also launched a number of extensions including a member library, vintage photo booth, exhibition inspired cocktails and camera related inspiration from the past, present and future.

The Camera Club is located upstairs at the Beach Road Hotel, Bondi Beach and open from 6pm Tuesday – Sunday.

Exhibition 2: ‘Fancy That!’ Launch Party, 7pm Thursday 9th of December 2010.

An unexpected moment that brings a smile to your face, the sight of vista too big to ponder, the joy of a pleasure so simple it’s free and all of the super rad things we see. ‘Fancy That!’ asks ten photographers to dig deep into their archives and present an inspired selection of their favourite lounge-room wall ready moments.

Featuring the works of 10 connected photographers including;

Nick Atkins
Jessie Sara English
Akila Berjaoui
Louis Westgarth
Robbie Powell
Gavin Rea
Stephanie Geddes
Po McReynolds
Jana Brunclikova
James Broadhurst

Westfield Opening

Knack recently filmed the opening of the Westfield Sydney City Complex. Situated in what is undoubtedly the best retail real estate in Australia, Westfield Sydney is bordered by Pitt Street Mall, Castlereagh and Market Streets and integrates the former Centrepoint, Imperial Arcade and Skygarden shopping centres. The centre also conjoins Sydney Tower and the former Sydney Central Plaza and includes two office towers at 85 Market Street and 100 Castlereagh Street.

The first thing one notices about Westfield Sydney is that it’s very very beautiful. The external building design has been undertaken by Melbourne firm John Wardle Architects following an international design competition. The centre’s unique interior design is by internationally renowned Tokyo-based interior design company, Wonderwall, whose projects include the Collette store in Paris and Uniqlo stores worldwide.
